Hell of A Spell pre-dated Sahm's LAST REAL TEXAS BLUES BAND releases on Antones by a couple years but is essentially the same band with the same sound......gritty Texas blues ala DUKE records with fat horns and stinging guitar. Nuevo Wave Live carries on the Sir Douglas Quintet legacy with a spirited and exciting live performance of the bands hits as well as songs from Bob Dylan- Sam The Sham & T-Bone Walker. The balance of this wonderful release features some of the tough r&b Doug recorded in the late 50's with Spot Barnett's band as well as with the Pharaohs- The Dell Kings & The Markays. CD 2 ends with sides by Freddy Fender- Ernest Tubb!! and T-Bone Walker....all major influences on Sahm.........
