I find myself going back to this one again and again, even as I miss my Washington, D.C. colleague Bobby Parker. Bobby, who succeeded both singer Little Willie John and singer/guitarist Larry Dale in the Paul Williams is a star on this one with his mix of impassioned, churchy high tenor vocals and piercing guitar. But so is Jimmy Spruill, the NYC session ace who succeeded Mickey Baker and whose chunky rhythmic style is sort of like a cross between Jimmy Nolen and Chuck Berry. Many of these have been spread out on other reissues but it's great to have these all in one place with good sound.
