Best known as a songwriter, Titus Turner was a blues shouter with a comical bent who by the 1950s got pushed in a big band rock bag (think Lloyd Price on ABC.) Blues fans might need to skip a few tracks as he did his share of novelties but there are some classic jump ("Get On The Right Track Baby,"later covered by Ray Charles and "Hold Your Loving," later covered by James Montgomery) and proto-soul cuts (the original of Arthur Conley's "People Sure Act Funny." I wish the compilers has extended the chronology earlier and later so they could include his classic Okeh sides from '53 and mid-60s classics like "The Last of the Big Time Spenders." And despite what they say, the version of "All Around The World" is a recut rather than the Mercury version (this version is actually better.) Still, this is the most comprehensive reissue of Titus and you can't beat the price.
