Screamin' Jay Hawkins was the most outrageous performer extant during rock's dawn. Prone to emerging out of coffins onstage, a flaming skull named Henry his constant companion, Screamin' Jay was an insanely theatrical figure long before it was even remotely acceptableJay had a profound influence on artists such as Arthur Brown who copied his style. His famous stage act was replicated by Black Sabbath for their fans. His most succesful track (which features on this Recall release), 'I put A Spell On You' was originally recorded on the Okeh label in 1956. Some of the moans and groans had to be edited so that it could be played on radio.
