Musically, Ellas Otha Bates, better known as Bo Diddley, came up through the blues and gospel and R&B world being inspired by the likes of John Lee Hooker, Louis Jordan and Muddy Waters to name only a few. Unbelievably his first instrument was the trombone and next, even more bizarrely the violin on which he played in an orchestra until the age of 18!?
