THE DEVILS'S MUSIC- "The soundtrack to the 1976 BBC-TV documentary series" The first two cds in this set offer rare and unheard recordings by such artists as Joe Willie Wilkins, Houston Stackhouse, The Aces, Fenton Robinson, Good Rocking Charles and many others. As a historical document, it offers a peek into the state of lesser recorded blues artists during a period of decline in popularity of the music. There is some great performances here, espically the delta performers such as Stackhouse, Big Joe Williams and Sonny Blake as well as the solid sounds of the 2nd string of Chicago artists such as Billy Boy Arnold, The Aces and Fenton Robinson. The 3rd disc covers the 1963 European Blues Festival that features performances by Memphis Slim, Matt Murphy and Sonny Boy Williamson. This material has not been widely available and is another example of how far the music has strayed since then.......
