Bootsy put his time served with James Brown and George Clinton to good use on his first solo album, laying down some impossibly funky tracks anchored by his beast of a bass. 'I’d Rather Be with You' and 'Stretchin’ Out (in a Rubber Band)' were the hits, but the whole thing’s essential, with some tasty horn charts cooked up by fellow JB’s Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker.
