Poncello Records was founded by the legendary songwriter/record producer Ted Jarrett in 1960. He began is career in the early 1950's at Tennessee/Republic Records as a staff producer and had some success with the Radio Four and R&B chanteuse Christine Kittrell. By the mid 1950's Ted had gone into partnership with Allen and Reynolds Pubis (owners of the Tennessee and Republic Labels) to start the Calvert and Kit Labels, followed later by the Champion and Cherokee imprints. As the swinging 60's arrived, Ted struck out on his own and formed the Poncello, which was far more ambitious than the Champion group of Labels had been. His 1960's production utilise strings, horns, vocal choruses and much bigger rhythm sections, making for a much more layered sound............ The Poncello Story is compiled of some of the finest R&B and soul sides produced by Jarrett during the 60's and is digitally remastered and housed in digipak format with sleeve notes by Fred James.......... 1.
